King Baudouin Foundation provides financial support for Science Show

02-12-2020

The King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) will support the VUB ‘Engineering Science Show’ through the Ernest Solvay Fund. The jury from KBF decided to reward a sum of €7500 for the realisation of this yearly science spectacle. The Engineering Faculty from VUB will organize an impressive renewed show in 2022, after an online edition in 2021.

The Science Show is a STEM project from Vrije Universiteit Brussel which encourages over a thousand high school students to participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics). The initiative is built on the Photonics Show from B-PHOT Brussels Photonics and nowadays, the photonics research group from VUB leads this event in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering.

With the Ernest Solvay Fund, the King Baudouin Foundation promotes scientific development. It supports educational initiatives and training in research and entrepreneurship in the fields of science and technology.

“The KBS support is a big boost for the organisation”, says Tine De Pauw, initiator and organiser of the event. “The 2021 edition was cancelled due to COVID-19 and will be replaced by an online alternative. The 2022 edition will be a stunning show. The Faculty guides youngsters on a trip through multiple engineering disciplines and their interdisciplinarity. They get recognizable examples to see how engineers and their research have an impact on daily life. Afterwards, the students will gain hands-on experience by participating in workshops.”

Keep following B-Photonics for updates on the shows!
